DKIM Configuration
What is DKIM?
DKIM stands for DomainKeys Identified Mail. At a high level, DKIM is a mechanism for you to indicate to the world at large that Vivantio is authorized to send email on your behalf. More information can be found on the DKIM Wikipedia Page.
Do I need to use DKIM?
If you have configured Vivantio to send email via authenticating to an external SMTP server - whether it’s one you host, or a provider such as Gmail - then you don’t need to use DKIM. However - Microsoft will soon be removing support for SMTP authentication for non-interactive applications, so if you’re an Office 365 customer, and you’re currently sending mail via the Office 365 SMTP server, you will need to switch to using Vivantio’s SMTP server, and in this case, we strongly recommend configuring DKIM.
How do I configure DKIM?
Most DKIM configuration is done in your DNS provider. On the Vivantio side, you simply need to enabled DKIM within the Admin Area, under:
Admin > Setup > Outgoing Email > SMTP
(If you do not see the option to enable DKIM, please log a ticket with our support team to get access enabled)
If you don't currently have DKIM enabled, you'll see a screen similar to the below:
(Please note that DKIM is only available if you're using Vivantio's SMTP server. There are currently no plans to make DKIM available when using third party SMTP servers.)
After checking the 'Enable DKIM' box, you will be shown the information you need in order to configure DKIM in your DNS provider:
The exact information shown may vary based on your specific Vivantio instance - you will be prompted to create either a TXT or CNAME record.
At the time of writing, Vivantio is not able to provide specific guidance for different DNS providers in the Self Service Portal. If you need further guidance, please contact our support team, and we will do our best to assist you.
Enhanced email security is available by upgrading the DKIM key encryption. This offers stronger protection for outgoing emails. The increased DKIM key encryption to 2048-but can be enabled in the admin area
