Languages

Overview

If you support End Users who speak different languages, Vivantio’s Localization features help you present certain information to them in their language of choice in the self service portal. The configuration will allow both the system text and the custom text to be translated.

Guidance

Navigate to Admin Area > Setup > Localization > Resources

To Add a language

Click the button Add Language and select a language from the drop-down menu, then click Save.

To Remove a language

Click the button Remove Language and select the language you wish to remove from the drop down list – click Save

Applying Languages

When you have added the Language Pack in the system it will then detect the users browser language and translate the fields that are in the Standard Language Pack in the System.

To change the Browser Language -

  • Internet Explorer -  Settings > Internet Options > On the General Tab > Languages > Set Language Preferences > Under Preferred Languages > Add a Language.

  • Google Chrome - Settings > Advanced > Languages > Add Languages

When logging into the Self Service Portal the system will automatically change the Language based on the above browser setting.

Example

English UK -

Spanish -

Overview

Once you have set up languages you can start adding the language text with the String buttons. This will then translate the text into the chosen language.

Guidance

Navigate to Admin Area > Setup > Localization > Resources

Add String

Click the Add String button; in the Name add the string and in the Default Value add the information you want translated to the User.

Supported Prefixes

You can currently use two different prefixes for localization strings:

  • Custom - used for custom strings
  • Category - used for categories

When adding a Category localization, make sure you enter the category name (not lineage) and remove any spaces or special characters. The category name will then be localized wherever a category appears in Self Service.

Now both terms in the category lineage selection are translated in the Self Service Portal

Edit String

Click the Edit String button, make the amendments, Click Save

Delete String

Click the Delete String button and confirm the action.

Example

The Self Service Portal Menu as shown in the Screen Shots Above are not Translated by default as they are not system fields. So we have in the example below added the translation in the Localization.

Then in the Admin Area > Self Service Portal > Appearance > Page Customization > Customize Menu >

We have used the Fields in double braces to dynamically look up the value from the Localization string.

When viewing the Self Service Portal and the Browser Language is set to English the Default Value will be used.

When the Browser Language is set to Spanish the dynamic fields will use the Spanish translation.
